Pomeroy – home of the guard cows

Today we learnt:

  • a full tank of water is actually, possibly, 75%
  • Matlock Bath is NOT made for motorhomes
  • Cows make excellent security guards
  • Campervan/motorhome owners should acknowledge one another in passing and/or track each other down at petrol stations to ask random and ill thought out questions.

After leaving home, we stopped for a hearty breakfast at Sainsbury’s before heading “up north”. So far, so good. We arrived in good time at Pomeroy Caravan Park

and were amazed by the exemplary facilities: heated floor in the toilets? Lovely. The security cows stopped us going for a walk but who could fault such a beautiful location?

Having bought in advance tickets to the illuminations at Matlock Bath, we headed off in good time to find a parking space and a good spot. Matlock Bath is a small town based around the A6 to Derby. We should have known that a well advertised event, such as the illuminations, would have brought more people than parking but we were optimistic. However, a large motorbike contingent and our newfound motorhome owner status meant we did not find parking suitable for our home on wheels. The nearest car park with space for us was Cromford Mill carpark but they’d had their pay and display machine stolen so we weren’t convinced our motorhome was safe there either.  With tails between our legs we bailed and returned to Pomeroy, happy to find the guard cows had gone home for the evening.
